I am 21 years old. I am on hypertension medication (Irbesartan Hydrochlorothiazide 150 mg/12.5 mg). My cardiologist suggested doing a CT scan for my heart, and the report says that I have atherosclerosis in one of my coronary arteries. So he prescribed me Aspirin after that. Because of financial constraints, I cannot continue with my hypertension medication. However, I am thinking of replacing it with green tea as it has L- theanine content which may help in lowering my blood pressure. Will that help at least a little bit until I can afford the medications?
Some of the non-pharmacological measures to control blood pressure are given here. Avoid smoking and other addictions. Reduce salt in the diet. Reduce fatty foods, junk foods, and saturated fats. Avoid stress and anxiety. Do regular moderate-intensity exercise, such as a brisk walk for thirty minutes. Have a good night's sleep (at least 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep in the night and 2 hours in the afternoon). Reduce weight. Drink plenty of water. Do deep breathing exercises and meditation. Measure blood pressure while you are in a relaxed state. Before measuring blood pressure, try to sit for five minutes in a quiet room without talking to anyone. Empty bowel and bladder before. Avoid tea or coffee before 30 minutes. Sit on a chair with feet on the ground, back supported, hand placed on the table, cuff at the position of your heart. Repeat the measurement after five minutes. Then check blood pressure in the other arm and repeat after five minutes. Take at least two or more readings, and the average will be the correct measurement. The arm which shows higher reading is your blood pressure.
