Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a cough with yellow mucus for a few weeks now along with what I presume a stuffy nose. A few days back I was given an antibiotic for it. The problem I am dealing with apart from the cough is night sweats. I have performed multiple tests today, results are attached but the summary is that total WBC, neutrophils and ESR values are raised above normal whereas lymphocytes have declined. The radiologist's X-ray report says that the chest is clear but the maxillary sinuses are hazy. What do these numbers mean? Should I be concerned? I would really appreciate a prompt reply, anxiety is killing me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your symptoms and I also went through your laboratory investigations (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It shows increased neutrophil count and your hemoglobin looks normal. What I feel is that you are having sinusitis. So, in that infection of sinus people get similar symptoms that are what you have.

So, coming to the management part, I would advise you to go for steam inhalation. You just have to inhale hot steam vapor from boiling water. I want you to take Fexofenadine 120 milligrams one side at night for five days and other medicines include Paracetamol 650 three times a day for five days, Amoxicillin-Clavulanate 650 twice daily for five days and the final medicine is Pantocid 40 milligram twice daily for five days. With these medications, we should feel better and the symptoms should subside. If you still continue to have the same symptoms, you should seek medical attention from ENT specialist.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
