Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 5 months old nephew has been tested Covid positive two days back. High chances that mother might be infected too. Please guide as to how can we take care of the kid (most important)? How to identify how serious is his condition? when to get admitted;? Is there any medicines to be given to the kid? Can mother take all the medicines and still breastfeed the baby?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Firstly it is important to test the mother to be sure if the two can be kept together. If mother is positive, then both can be kept together, else the mother will have to be seperated. In such a case, bottle feeds will have to be given by another family member (who may be positive).

You need to watch out for lethargy, refusal to feed and fever in the child. Any of these indications is showing that the child will need to be evaluated physically bya pediatrician.

As regards to medicine to be given to the child, you can give drops zincovit 1 ml once a day for 10 to 14 days.

If the mother is at home and is positive, she can take the medications (no antivirals) and feed the baby.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
