Do symptoms like high fever, sinus, headache, sore throat, body pain, chills, and loss of taste and smell indicate COVID- 19 infection?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a high fever, sinus, headache, sore throat, body pain, chills, and loss of taste and smell within three days. What could be the reason? Can this be COVID-19, monkeypox, or swine flu? My family members are reluctant to get me out of the room because they fear this might spread. What should I do now?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your query.

The symptoms described by you are observed in both Influenza and Covid-19. Monkeypox causes a specific pattern of rashes. Swine flu is unlikely at this time. However, suppose you have taken COVID-19 vaccine primary doses and preferably precautionary doses. In that case, even if it's COVID-19, it is unlikely to cause severe disease and is likely to be a self-limiting milder disease. To ascertain the occurrence of COVID-19, you need to undertake RTPCR or rapid antigen test with a nose and throat swab. Additionally, to understand the severity and possible complications, I would suggest you take specific blood tests such as:

  1. Complete blood count.
  2. D- Dimer.
  3. C-reactive protein.
  4. Renal function tests.
  5. Liver function tests.

However, if you do not want to undertake any tests, I would suggest the following medications,

  1. Tablet Montelukast 10 mg and Levocetirizine 5 mg once daily for seven days.
  2. Tablet Azithromycin 500 mg once daily for three days.
  3. Tablet Paracetamol 650 mg thrice daily for three days (in case you have a fever).
  4. Tablet N- Acetylcysteine 600 mg once daily for seven days.
  5. Tablet Vitamin C 500 mg twice daily for seven days.
  6. Capsule Saccharomyces Boulardi 250 mg twice daily for three days (take medicine two to three hours apart from tablet Azithromycin).

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
