Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My son is tested positive for COVID-19, as per the RT-PCR laboratory report today. Initially, he had a fever measuring 100°F three days back. He took tablet Calpol 650 only once. After this, his temperature subsided, and the fever did not recur. He complained of losing a partial sense of smell two days back, and it came back today. He has not lost his sense of taste. Also, his appetite is normal. He is having Multivitamins with Zinc and Vitamin C regularly. No complaints as of today, but advice sought for future. Please suggest medication and advice.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing, and I understand your concern. I have gone through the reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), which is positive. The virus load is mild, so do not worry. It is good that he does not have severe symptoms. Please keep him in home isolation.

I would suggest the following treatment:

  1. Tablet PCM (Paracetamol) 500 mg, if needed.
  2. Tablet Vitamin C 500 mg twice a day.
  3. Tablet Vitamin B complex after food at night.
  4. Tablet Ivermectin 12 mg single dose.
  5. Capsule Oseltamivir 75 mg morning and evening after food for five days.
  6. Capsule Doxycycline 100 mg after breakfast for five days.
  7. Capsule Lumia 60k (Cholecalciferol) single dose with milk.

Kindly check SpO2 (oxygen saturation) levels four to five times a day; usually, they should be above 93%. Please do CBC (complete blood count) and CRP (C-reactive protein) tests as well. When you get the reports, kindly send me. I will check and let you know further.

Let me know after five days if anything else, let me know.

Differential diagnosis

Pneumonia.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Concerning the drugs you suggested, I need to ask you about two drugs. Is tablet Ivermectin given once only as a single dose or as a repeated dose every day? Is there any alternate drug for tablet Oseltamivir 75 mg if I do not get it in medical stores?

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest tablet Ivermectin one tablet once a day for five days.

It is okay if you are not able to find the tablet Oseltamivir. If symptoms persist even after taking all other medications, I suggest tablet Fabiflu (Favipiravir 500 mg), but for now, it is not required. Just continue the rest of the medicines I suggested, and everything will be fine.

If anything else, please let me know.

Take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have now fully recovered following your guidelines and medications. My SPO2 level also reads 99 percent (measuring four to five times a day) and my pulse is 74 to 80 bpm. I have started yoga (pranayama) and breathing exercises for five days. I am continuing to take the vitamins as suggested by you. My urge to eat has come back and my sense of smell and taste has also returned. Now I need to join my duties (online) for which I require your fitness certificate. We require a fitness certificate even if we do online jobs. Please help me in regards to the same.

Regards.
