My antibodies increased after the first shot of the Sputnik V vaccine. Should I get the second dose?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had Coronavirus last year. Last month I got the first shot of the Sputnik V vaccine, and after three weeks of the shot, I checked my antibodies, and the number was 3270 (I am not wrong about this). When I went for a re-vaccine, I asked if it was necessary, but the doctor there told me that there are two different components of that vaccine. So now I am afraid of what can happen to me if I have so many antibodies in my blood. Can it cause some disease in my body? Should I check something, and can I prevent it?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern. Sputnik V is a two-part vaccine with a design to augment the response achieved with the first dose. The addition of a second dose will help maintain that response, which is why Sputnik has one of the highest efficacy (91%). There is no harmful effect of the number of antibodies. Antibodies are harmful when they work against our own body, which depends on nature and number. One of the rare side effects of Sputnik is the development of GBS (Guillain-Barre syndrome), which happens when antibodies attack the nervous system. A single finding of an increased level of antibodies is not harmful. That is why nothing is recommended. We usually do not check for the level of antibodies too. But if you have some serious adverse event, only additional testing is recommended depending on the nature of the side effect.

I would be happy to help you further if you have any other questions.

Thank you.
