Patient's Query

Hello, I found out I was exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 and started developing symptoms a few days ago. I have a constant headache, fatigue, sore body, congestion and a sore throat. If I receive negative test results, but have had all of these symptoms, do I need to quarantine to be safe? I am wondering if I should return to work or not.

Hi,

Thanks for your query,

Sorry to know about your Covid19 exposure and subsequent development of symptoms. However, you need not be anxious instead take adequate measures to get out of the situation safely. For that to happen, here is what you could do,

1. Lifestyle- Mask wearing at all times outside, quarantine preferably even if Covid negative (as false negative results might happen), keep up your protein, electrolyte, vitamin-rich diets (especially vitamin C - lemons, oranges; vitamin D and calcium- milk, meat, spinach, etc. Vitamin B complex- fresh vegetables, fruit juices {without added sugar}, eggs, fresh fish, non-red meats, less oil), use hot or warm water for fomenting your nose, mouth, throat, and upper respiratory tract- hot, saline water gargles twice a day, steam inhalations twice a day, drinking warm water at all times, etc., daily small increments of aerobic exercises.

2.. Medicines and supplements,

A) Tablet Vitamin C 500 mg 1 tablet twice daily for 15 days.

B) Tablet Zinc 50mg 1 tablet twice daily for 15 days.

C) Capsule Vitamin D3 (1 capsule= 60,000 IU) 1 capsule once a week for 6 weeks.

D) Tablet Shelcal D3 1 tablet once daily for 15 days (look out for a locally available similar brand, containing calcium supplements).

E) Tablet Multivitamin B-complex 1 tablet once a day for 15 days.

F) Capsule Saccharomyces Boulardi (250mg =1 capsule) 1 capsule twice a day for 7 days.

G) Tablet Tylenol cold and flu severe nighttime (containing Acetaminophen 325 mg Chlorpheniramine maleate 2 mg Dextromethorphan HBr 10 mg Phenylephrine HCI 5 mg) 2 caplets thrice daily for 5-7 days (do not drive or handle heavy machinery during this time) There are other prescription medicines that can be given if you test Covid19 positive, otherwise the above are just fine.

You are also advised to undertake the following laboratory tests. In addition,

1. Blood- CBC, ESR, CRP, LDH, liver function tests, renal function tests, serum ferritin,

2. X-ray chest (PA view) or CT scan chest (in case it turns covid19 positive) Keep checking your SPO2 levels (pulse oximetry at home) in the meanwhile and report if the value falls below 94.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
