HomeAnswersDentistrycracked toothI have sensitivity to hot and cold foods a year after getting a tooth filled. Why?

What could be the reason for sensitivity in a broken tooth that was filled a year ago?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a broken tooth fixed and a cavity treated in another tooth. Due to the fillings, both teeth were sensitive to hot and cold meals. After a year now the teeth are no longer sensitive to hot or cold food or beverages, except for the treated broken tooth, which has been giving me pain since the last week. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

As your medical history indicates, the sensitivity is no longer present, which means the tooth with the filling has grown a layer of secondary dentin and is no longer painful. The second cracked tooth can have infected tissue, which would explain the pain you are experiencing. It has to be refilled.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
