Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 38 years old. I have Crohn's disease and it was diagnosed 15 years back. I had ileum resection in the same year. Currently, I am taking Humira and Methotrexate. Previously, I was taking Remicade and Cimzia. But it did not help me and so my gastroenterologist suggested to take Humira. My gynecologist did a pelvic ultrasound and she told me that I have an enlarged uterus with adenomyosis. I had heavy bleeding with large blood clots, pelvic pain, and painful intercourse. So my gynecologist suggested to have a hysterectomy. I have three kids. Kindly suggest. Will hysterectomy cause major risk or damage to Crohn's disease? My maternal grandmother had ovarian cancer and my aunt had a mastectomy on her left breast. My mum had a hysterectomy due to an enlarged uterus.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I suggest you do a hysterectomy soon as adenomyosis can damage your health. It should not affect your Crohn's disease. You need to take additional precautions before and after surgery. Your diabetic levels and hypertension should be managed carefully for doing surgery. It needs to be evaluated thoroughly before and after surgery.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
