Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Last month I had an Unwanted-72 pill, and my abortion was successful. I had unprotected sex with my husband on the 15th day of my menstrual; this month. My periods are late by eight days, and I have pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness. Am I pregnant, or has the pregnancy not been terminated?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

First of all, emergency contraceptive pills are hormones that interfere regularity of the menstrual cycle. After taking pills, withdrawal bleeding normally occurs in one to two weeks. After that, cycles could be irregular for some time till the effect of the hormone finishes. For recent unprotected sex with no emergency pill post-sex, it is better to have serum beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) immediately. It will clear the pregnancy status. The level of beta hCG will confirm pregnancy. Ans if pregnant, how many weeks pregnant are you? I hope you get my point. Hormonal pills normally affect the cycle for some time after withdrawal bleeding. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
