Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my LMP a month back. Three weeks later, I took an I-pill within five hours. However, my periods have been delayed by two days. Do I need to take a pregnancy test? Is the I-pill that I have taken safe and will not cause pregnancy?

Kindly advise.

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I-pill is very effective and usually prevents pregnancy when taken within 12 hours of unprotected intercourse. However, I-pill has side effects like irregular bleeding and delayed periods. So, this might be the reason for delayed periods in your case. Also, it is better to take a pregnancy test to be 100 percent sure. You can take it tomorrow, and if it comes negative, nothing else has to be done, and you will get your periods in a week or so.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the response.

I also have a complaint of PCOD. I have been on treatment for one year. I am taking tablet Ginette 35 and had taken the tablet along with I-pill. Is this causing a delay in periods?

Kindly advise.

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

A pregnancy test comes positive after 13 days of unprotected sexual intercourse. Therefore, if you are pregnant, the test can come positive anytime from tomorrow. Also, tablet Ginette 35 works as a contraceptive pill, so there was no need to take I-pill along with it. Therefore, your chances of pregnancy are almost nil.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
