Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am on my seventh month of postpartum and breastfeeding. My period cycle started three months ago. But for the past month, I have not gotten my period, which has been 14 days. Is it because of pregnancy? But I had no implantation bleeding. What would be the cause of this delayed period? Is there any medicine to induce period? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the details presented by you. As your periods started three months back, you are still to get your periods, not taking any medication, have no history of irregular periods, and are sexually active, then despite implantation bleeding not there, there is a possibility of pregnancy. Implantation bleeding is not a prerequisite for pregnancy to be confirmed as it is light or very light bleeding and sometimes may not be there at all. I suggest you do a urine pregnancy test with the first urine of the day tomorrow and adhere to all guidelines written on the package of the pregnancy test kit. I also suggest you not drink too much fluid before the test. If the test is negative, I can suggest the medicine to induce a period because if there is pregnancy, and we take medicine for periods, it will make things much more complex. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

Patient's Query

Thank you for the suggestion.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Grateful that I could help you. As I suggested, do the test tomorrow morning and share the outcome. We will do whatever is best based on the result.

Hi doctor,

Thank you. Sure.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If I had given you medicine for periods, your pregnancy would have gotten complicated instead of you getting periods. However, a better assessment can be done if you answer the following questions.

1. Can you tell me when was your last period?

2. How many days periods flow do you have?

3. When was the period expected by you?

This will help me estimate how old your pregnancy is, as this will further help you decide on medication. You may need supervision from a local gynecologist as over-counter pills for periods at this stage are not recommended as you may get excessive bleeding. Do not worry, you are fine. But I suggest you get medical supervision in your city or town to prevent complications.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My LMP was on two months back and lasted for four days; the flow was normal, and I expected periods by 27 of last month, but I have not.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you rebuy a pregnancy test kit tomorrow and check the pregnancy before making any further decisions. If the test is positive again, I suggest you visit a licensed obstetrician and gynecologist for necessary help as you are pregnant. If I consider your ovulation around the tenth of last month, you are almost five weeks pregnant and need medical supervision to assist you in whatever decision you take. I suggest you not buy anything from the chemist shop without a prescription or try home remedies as it may complicate the thing. A doctor will be able to help you with the medicines that you need.
