Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My girlfriend was expecting her periods between 3rd and 5th of last month. We had protected sex on 3rd, after 2 hours she took an i-pill. Then again on 4th we had protected sex and after 10 hours she had another i-pill. Now it is 12th and she has not had her periods but only spotting is there. Are there chances of pregnancy?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for using this platform.

  • There is no chance of pregnancy as she was expecting her periods on the day of intercourse which is not a fertile period.
  • Above this, she took emergency contraceptive pill which is almost 99% effective in preventing pregnancy.
  • She did not have period because of hormonal imbalance.
  • Indiscriminate use of i-pill is never advisable and should be avoided as far as possible.
  • Her hormones were surging on the day of intercourse and they were supplemented by two i-pills on consecutive days and that probably lead to hormonal imbalance and absence of proper periods.
  • I must assure you that there is no need to worry at this stage. To become double sure you can get a urine pregnancy test for which kit is available over-the-counter on most medical stores.
