Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 21 years old. One month back, my boyfriend and I had an outercourse during which he was in his underwear and me in jeans and underwear. The wetness of his ejaculation touched my jeans near my thighs, and immediately he put some water on them and rubbed them with a towel. I am now having a 15-day delay in my periods; however, five days back, I had brown discharge in my underwear.

Should I be concerned?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and will be happy to help you. To get pregnant, the sperms have to be ejaculated inside the vagina of the female. These sperms then need to fertilize an egg which may or may not be available depending upon the ovulation pattern. Finally, a fertilized egg has to be implanted in the uterus. When all this happens successfully, a female is said to have conceived. In your case, as the sperms were not ejaculated, there is no possibility of pregnancy. Sperms can live in the open air for only a few seconds, and they cannot swim across through clothing, especially multiple layers of jeans. Please do not worry; there can be several reasons for delayed periods like polycystic ovaries, stress, or hormonal changes. Do share more details about brown discharge. Please feel free to ask any questions or share any additional information.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Thank you for your response.

Regarding the brown discharge, there was a slight discharge near the vagina, which I assumed to be my period, but later I realized that there was no blood but only brown discharge that lasted for two days.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and will try to guide you.

Please let me know how was the flow during the two days? Was it slight all the time? How long did your period last? Did you need a sanitary pad? Do provide additional information so that I am sure that it was not your period as colour may vary sometimes due to several reasons. Are you feeling any PMS (premenstrual syndrome) signs? Is there a history of similar problem?

Do answer the above questions and kindly revert back.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
