Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My period date was on the 8th of last month. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex, 6 days after the period date. He did pull out but we were not sure so I took an emergency contraceptive after around 48 hours. After 6 days, I bled for 3 days and after that, nothing happened. This month my period was supposed to come in the first week, but it did not so I took a pregnancy test which was negative, but after that still there is no sign of a period. Therefore, I took another test yesterday which is also negative. It has been 8 days since my period is due, and my period cycle is 28 days. I am worried about being pregnant. What should I do now?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

As you had intercourse on a safe day and also took an emergency contraceptive pill, so there is almost no chance of getting pregnant. Sometimes periods might get delayed by 1 or 2 weeks because of some stress, recent illness, or because of hormonal changes as you took the pill. So I would suggest waiting for a week. But if still your periods would not come then do a urine pregnancy test for clarification.

Hope this information helps you.

Thanks and take care.
