Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I took a Primolut tablet on the last day of my period to attend a religious function last month. I have not had my period this month, and I am not pregnant. Should I be worried?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

It would be better if you send me a detailed gynecological, medical, drug, and obstetric history. Have you been experiencing regular cycles? If yes, then you should pay attention to this delay. But if you have been experiencing abnormal cycles, then it is better to have a transvaginal scan and blood tests on day 2 of periods that includes serum progesterone, prolactin, testosterone, insulin, FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), and thyroid function test. Collect laboratory results and discuss them here or with a local gynecologist to manage accordingly. If cycles have been regular, then better to check pregnancy status by having a serum beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) and blood pregnancy test if you had unprotected sex or if there is a doubt of pregnancy. If the test comes negative, then have a tablet Primolut-N (Norethisterone) 10 mg twice daily for five days and wait for menses for about one to two weeks. If it comes positive and you observe pain, cramps, and bleeding, then report immediately to a gynecologist.

I hope this has helped answer your queries.

Regards.
