Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My period is already late by this time (13 days late). My last period was on 27th June and I usually have delayed periods, sometimes by two months. My partner and I had unprotected sex on 5th August but no ejaculation. I still took the pill within 48 hours and had a small pool of blood just after 20 minutes of taking the pill, Unwanted 72. What is the reason for it? Do I need to worry? Are there any chances of pregnancy? When should I expect to have my next period after taking the pill? I have been having vaginal itching too and the area around it is red after intercourse or maybe after taking the pill, I am not very sure about that. What could be the reason for it? If it is an allergy, then what would have been the reason for it?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

See, although any kind of unprotected intercourse irrespective of complete ejaculation inside or not can result in pregnancy. However, you have taken the intelligent decision of taking the emergency contraceptive pill Unwanted 72. So you will not get pregnant (99.99%). Now coming to delayed menstruation, see Unwanted 72 is a hormone-based pill that interferes with menstrual cycle pattern of girls and as a result you are having this delay now. Hopefully, you should get the period in the next 7-10 days. Unwanted 72 also causes small bleeding or spotting post intercourse but not as early as 20 minutes. If you are not sexually active and you rarely do intercourse then please examine yourself if by any chance, you have sustained any vaginal injury or rashes due to intercourse. Regarding itching or redness, please apply Surfaz cream (Clotrimazole) locally. Use vaginal wash to clean the area and keep it dry. Wear loose cotton underwear and do not do intense exercise.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
