Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had sexual intercourse eight days ago, and now I am not sure if I am pregnant or not. So, I took a pregnancy test last two days ago, but it came back negative, so I decided to wait another two days, but I still have not got my periods, and I have never had irregular periods. I had missed my periods for the previous two years, and during that time, I became pregnant, which I then aborted using an unwanted kit. I have been taking antibiotics and cough syrup for the last ten days because I had a cold and a cough. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

If you missed your period and had sexual intercourse eight days ago, there is a possibility that you could be pregnant. However, it is not uncommon for periods to be delayed due to various reasons such as stress, changes in diet or exercise, illness, or certain medications. If you have taken a pregnancy test and it has come negative, it is possible that the test was taken too early and the hormone levels in your body were not high enough to be detected by the test. In this case, you should wait a few more days and take another pregnancy test. It is recommended to take the test in the morning with your first urine sample as it has the highest concentration of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) which is detected by most pregnancy tests. If you still do not get your period after a few more days and the pregnancy test still shows a negative result, it is suggested to consult with your healthcare provider to determine if there may be an underlying issue causing the delay in your period.

I hope you understand my point.

Thank you.
