Hello doctor,

My period cycle is yet to start in the middle of this month, but we have planned for a honeymoon. So what precautions or medicines should I take before or after having sex because sex during the period can lead to pregnancy in most cases? And after these, will I get my periods on time?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The risk of pregnancy is really low immediately after and before the period. So it is not the way you have understood it to be. But moreover, you need to take a precaution for that in the form of condoms.

Also, at this stage, if you are planning for the baby later, as per your comfort, you need to decide upon a reliable birth control method like a patch, pills, condom, or IUD (intrauterine device).

Further, depending upon how long the honeymoon is, if you wish to delay periods for some time, say for some days to a week, I would suggest the medicines accordingly. But please take the medications with a physician's consent.

If you are planning unprotected intercourse, that should be avoided as the chances of pregnancy are there, but less.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Our honeymoon is for five days, so what kind of period delay pills to be taken and from which date and for how many days?

Also, if unprotected sex happens, then which birth control pills to be taken as a safety measure?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I suggest taking the tablet Deviry (progestin) 10 mg once daily till the day you want to stop the period. However, please consult a specialist, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent. Also, start the medication five days before the expected date of the period.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
