Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter wears braces for almost three years now. Right now, she often complains of the heavy jaw and is painful. What is the best treatment for this?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The metal fittings over your daughter's teeth would be cause for the heaviness she feels. And the pain she encounters might be for two reasons.

1.Generalized soreness of the gums since there is continuous pressure over it by the tooth movement produced during the treatment. or

2.Because of ulcers on the gums produced by some parts of the metal wire.

The best treatment would be as follows:

1. Ask her to maintain proper oral hygiene.

2. Regular visits to the orthodontist where she can get her routine cleaning done to reduce soreness of gums.

3. The impinging metal part has to be corrected at the ulcer site by the dentist.

4. Applying Dentogel 15 gm over the ulcers thrice a day for pain relief. Works better only when proper oral hygiene is maintained.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
