Hello doctor,

I have a tooth filled. Unfortunately, a file was broken inside the filled tooth. What are the side effects?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

The broken file left inside the root canal is a common mishap. It will be removed in most cases, but sometimes it may be quite challenging to remove because of its poor accessibility and visibility. The file will be bypassed in such situations to complete the root canal treatment. The treatment's prognosis or success depends on which stage it is left behind and the amount of infection remaining. The only side effect is that such a tooth will have a moderate to poor success rate. If the tooth gets infected and causes pain in the future, it will require immediate removal. It is fine if it stays asymptomatic.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
