What is the best way to deal with depression?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am suffering from severe depression. I do not have my parents or my life partner supporting me. I tried telling them but they do not believe that I have depression. I do not have friends. I literally drown into the well of loneliness all the time. When I try talking to my parents or my partner they seem irritated by me all the time. They find problems and faults in me everytime. I am just not able to live. I cry everyday. And like now I feel enough and I need to die. I am having suicidal thoughts. And I just feel like killing myself and end it all here.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You may have a major depressive disorder. Actually, you need a psychiatry consultation. You can do yourself to fight depression with non-pharmacology treatment. Start doing exercise daily for 30 to 40 minutes. Just go for a walk, at least if possible, and start swimming. Learn to do relaxation and meditation. Eat healthy food and avoid junk food. Take regular deep sleep. Do not expect anything from anyone. Stop complaining about anything. Accept yourself. Do something new daily. Talk with new people. Make some new good friends. Develop some good hobbies like painting, reading, writing, and learning new skills and language. Take a cold shower. Life is beautiful, go and enjoy. You can take medication if the above method does not help you. You can take the tablet Escitalopram 10 mg once in the morning after breakfast. Do not take medication on empty stomach. It will cause nausea or gastric problem. Avoid taking it before sleep. It may cause sleep problems. You have to do some exercise daily.

Please check your thyroid hormone level. If you have a thyroid problem, then it also causes depression, and even vitamin B12 deficiency also causes depression. So please check both. I hope you get your answer. Suicide is not a solution for anything. Life is to live, not just to spend. Do what you like. You cannot make each and everyone happy in your life. Spend some time for yourself. Just change your view to see life. Just stop complaining.

Thank you.
