Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Three months back I was diagnosed with diabetes. The tablet Metformin is now keeping my blood sugar levels stable. My BMI is likewise acceptable. However, I also want to learn how to control my blood sugar levels through nutrition. Please suggest me some healthy food items to manage my diabetes.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. Please continue with your medication and regularly check your blood sugar levels to make sure it is under control. Go for a walk, do yoga, exercise as health permits, and start gradually. It will help. I suggest taking the dietician's opinion. Avoid eating sweets, sugar, honey, jaggery, muraba (Indian gooseberry), chawanprash (ayurvedic herb mixture paste), coconut water, juices, biscuits, or rusk. In fruits, eat only papaya, guava, and kiwi. Take whole fruits instead of juices. Replace white rice with brown rice and bread and flour with multi-grain. Eat plenty of green leafy fresh vegetables. Gourd families like bottle, bitter, ridge, and sponge gourds are good. Leafy vegetables like fenugreek and spinach. Take a low-carbohydrate diet. Balance your diet well. Keep well hydrated. Hope this helps. Thanks and take care.
