Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have diabetes for the past 20 years and my sugar levels are under control. I am taking tablets for it. Before two years, it got raised one day and the doctor advised me to take insulin injections three times a day. Two days back, I checked my sugar levels and the fasting blood sugar was 87 mg/dL and after eating, it was 132 mg/dL. Do I need to continue taking insulin injections or can I shift to take tablets?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. In most cases, after taking insulin, the sugar levels get controlled. Then we revert back to anti-diabetic tablets. But you need to check your sugar levels for at least three days. If they are under control, you can start to take tablets. I suggest you do HbA1c (hemoglobin A1C) test. It is the test that suggests the presence of average sugar levels present in the body and consult a diabetician before taking tablets.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
