Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My lower right wisdom tooth is aching and am taking antibiotics but cannot open mouth all the way. It is too painful.

Answered by Dr. Naveen Thomas

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You should also start taking a muscle relaxant (Chlorzoxazone) with painkiller along with the antibiotic for a week. You will need a prescription for it. So, go back to your dentist. Do not delay for long else swelling might increase rapidly. Also, use warm salt water gargle twice a day. You will need to extract the wisdom tooth as soon as possible. Do slight exercises of the mouth after you start taking the required prescription, to loosen the jaw muscles to facilitate removal of the tooth. Did the dentist prescribe you Clindamycin?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

No, I went to the hospital because I could not take the pain anymore. I have a dentist appointment this weekend.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It would have been better if you can get Augmentin 625 g three times a day. Still, continue the same Clindamycin till you can see your dentist. Rest he will give you a written prescription for the treatment. You will mostly need surgical extraction of the impacted wisdom tooth soon.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
