HomeAnswersMedical oncologydysphagiaCould my father's sore throat relate to the oral gel used?

Can anesthesia present in the oral gel cause a sore throat and swallowing difficulties?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My father is a 75-year-old diabetic patient and he underwent a bypass surgery ten years ago. He is taking blood thinners. He has had sore throat pain while swallowing food or liquid for the past five days. His dentist prescribed an oral gel. Is it related?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Provide more details about the dental procedures. When was it done? Your father has pharyngitis (inflammation in the throat), which causes swallowing difficulty. Send me images for diagnosis. I suggest (consult with a specialist doctor, talk with him or her and take medicines with their consent) tablet Enzoflam (Diclofenac, Paracetamol, and Serratiopeptidase) twice daily for three days.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

He had a traumatic injury in the tongue due to a sharp tooth and underwent treatment for the same. I have attached the pictures. Should I be concerned about cancer?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

From the images attached (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), your father is normal, and the symptoms are due to an anesthetic component present in the gel. Observe the symptoms two hours after the application of the gel. Ask him to take the tablet I mentioned above. Then, consult a doctor for examination.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
