Hello doctor,
I have been experiencing pain in my left leg, buttocks, and lower back for a few weeks now. The pain is sometimes sharp and other times it is accompanied by tingling sensations. When I first consulted a doctor, they advised me to rest and prescribed painkillers or anti-inflammatory medication. However, after four weeks, the pain persisted, and I sought the opinion of a specialist. The specialist conducted an MRI and diagnosed me with a herniated disc between L5-S1, and recommended surgery. I am curious if there are any alternative options to surgery?

Firstly, I could not find a significant herniated disc in the MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) image (attachment removed to protect the patients's identity) you sent me. However, we can still attempt to manage your symptoms with medication. It is possible that you have not tried an adequate course of medication yet.
