Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 12-week pregnant woman. I took an NT scan yesterday. The NT measured 1.2 mm, and I was told it was normal. The cardiac activity also seemed normal. But the sonographer said that the baby had delayed ossification. Our doctor suggested that it is associated with Down syndrome for the baby and suggested we take up NIPT, for which I gave blood today. May I know how delayed ossification is associated with Down syndrome? All other vitals seem normal, though. The report also told me I was PIH-positive. I am way too confused about the health of the baby now.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have thoroughly reviewed your history and report (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) and understand your concerns. In your report, the nasal bone is absent, which is considered one of the soft markers for Down syndrome (congenital abnormalities). The nasal bone should be present in the first trimester; if it is absent, it means delayed bone ossification. To rule out congenital abnormalities, you must go for NIPT (non-invasive prenatal test) or amniocentesis (invasive) to rule out any congenital abnormalities. In addition, your artery resistance is high, so there are chances of premature delivery or fetal growth retardation.

Hope this helps. Kindly revert for further queries.

Thank you.
