Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I accidentally took 5000 mg of tablet Paracetamol in the last 24 hours. Will it harm me? Kindly suggest.

Answered by Dr. Saumya Mittal

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You would be fine if you do not have an allergy to the tablet Paracetamol and if your liver has no prior damage. But avoid taking it further. And do take it in the prescribed dose.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

The Paracetamol content was in 30/500 Codamol ten tablets. Would this still be fine?

Answered by Dr. Saumya Mittal

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I hope you are aware that the tablet Codamol is Codeine with Paracetamol. So you have effectively taken 9 grams of Paracetamol with 300 mg of Codeine. It is better if you visit your nearest hospital urgently.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Is it not five gram of paracetamol? Kindly suggest.

Answered by Dr. Saumya Mittal

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You said 10 tablets of 30/500 Codamol (Paracetomol and Codeine). 10 multiplied by 500 is 5000. And 5000 mg is your initial message. Which you said is mixed with tablet Codamol. So, 10000 mg?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

It is over 24 hours. Would that make it any better or not in one go?

Answered by Dr. Saumya Mittal

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I did not understand your query. Kindly rephrase it.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I took ten tablets of 30/500 Codamol over 24 hours. Would that still be bad? Kindly suggest.

Answered by Dr. Saumya Mittal

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, 5000 mg of Paracetamol in addition?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

No, just the ten tablets of 30/500 Codamol.

Answered by Dr. Saumya Mittal

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Well, as I said before, if there is no previous liver damage or allergic reaction, chances are you should be fine. Because 300 mg of Codeine is a high dose, watch your liver enzymes. Any responses or symptoms?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a bit of nausea and am feeling dizzy. Is there any need to seek medical attention, or will it be fine?

Answered by Dr. Saumya Mittal

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, that is potentially the side effect of Paracetamol and Codeine. Consulting a doctor in person is a must. Especially since you have been taking them for over 24 hours; meanwhile, take plenty of fluids.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Will it be fine if I do not seek medical attention? Kindly suggest.

Answered by Dr. Saumya Mittal

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I cannot comment on that without tests. The dosage you took is above the permissible levels. Also, you have symptoms. So you may recover spontaneously. But the symptoms can be a start of damage as well. As I said before, consulting a doctor in person is advisable.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
