Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was diagnosed with dryness in the eyes five years back. It happens only during winter. I had irritation in the eyes, which was somewhat relieved by washing with water. I was advised to use Lubrex-DS eye drops three times a day. It is no longer giving me relief. The use of Lubrex-DS eye drops makes it worse. I have no other (diagnosed) eye ailment. I use two aspects for reading, and I do not use spectacles for long-distance. Can you please prescribe me more effective medicine? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Dry eye is a prevalent condition seen in all ages. A common cause of dry eye is Meibomian gland dysfunction. Very likely, you could have it. I suggest hot compresses with lid massage to cure it, meaning take warm or hot (not very hot) water in a bowl, dip a clean cloth, and place it over the closed eyes. Once set, gently massage your eyes in a circular motion. Do this for two minutes on each eye, at least two times a day. It will be helpful. Please avoid direct air conditioner or fan blast as it increases dryness. For eye drops, I suggest you use Pgvisc eye drops (Polyethylene glycol and Propylene glycol) four times a day in both eyes or Systane ultra eye drop (Polyethylene Glycol 0.4% and Propylene Glycol 0.3%) (stronger, but a little expensive) four times a day in both eyes. Do the above things, and you will see improvement.

Thank you.

Preventive measures
