Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Seven months ago I had LASIK surgery on my eyes and I still have dry eyes especially after taking a shower everything becomes so dry. My eyes, ears, even nose, and vagina. I went to a dermatologist who prescribed Accutane, Vitamin A for my acne. Then he said that he cannot prescribe it until he makes sure it will be safe for me. So I should consult an ophthalmologist. So please tell me what do you think about it? I am a female, single, 21 years old. I always use moisturizer drops for my eyes maybe three or five times a day. Before LASIK also I had dry eyes.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Dry eyes after LASIK surgery are a common side-effect, more so if you have had dry eyes before surgery. You can continue using your moisturizing eye drops for three to five times, it will not cause you any harm. The dryness in your eyes will reduce overtime. In addition, you can use hot fomentation or give heat to your eyelids. Take a clean cloth, dip it in hot water, squeeze out the water and press this cloth against your closed eyelid about twice a day. As your dermatologist has told you, taking Accutane (Isotretinoin) can increase your dry eye, so he will withhold the treatment until your dry eye has improved. So please continue your moisturizing eyedrops and start giving hot fomentation. Hope you get well soon.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
