Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had chronic pain in my right side chest that has lasted for the past two years that travels from one point to another. Whenever I try to press on the pain, it hurts more. It is a dull pain that does not seem to get away except by taking a hot shower, and even then, I would get a somewhat 30 % reduced pain, but it still exists. I did an X-ray after the pain started, and the test results returned normal.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I have reviewed your attached reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). There is not anything significant in your reports. I want to ask a few things.

1. Please tell us the exact site of the pain. You can even mark the precise point on a picture of the chest from Google and send it to me.

2. Does your pain increase when you take a deep breath?

3. What do you do, and how much physical activity do you have in your daily routine?

Kindly reply to the following questions.

I hope the information will help.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Most of the time, the exact location of my pain is right in the center of the chest from the right side. When I try to press my chest, it adds more pain, and sometimes it travels to the back of my chest. Today I have pain in my right arm top, and the pain is dull all the time. I do not do any physical activity; my job is desk work, and I sit most of the time.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Based on the description given by you, my diagnosis is costochondritis. This is inflammation of the muscle attached to the ribs. I suggest you get ultrasonic therapy at painful sites with any nearby physiotherapist. Any medications you have tried till now?

I hope the information will help.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I have not taken any medications or anything. Please tell me all of what you think in detail. And my last question, if it is costochondritis, is there some medicine I can take to control this pain?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I suggest you to take medication like Aceclofenac 100 mg twice a day for two weeks, one muscle relaxant Thiocolchicoside 4 mg twice a day for two weeks, and also physiotherapy. One more thing I would like to suggest that start walking for 45 minutes at a stretch daily. Consult your specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent. I hope the information will help.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
