Dural Arteriovenousfistula

A dural arteriovenous fistula is a condition of having abnormal connections between an artery and a vein in the rigid structure called dura mater. In rare cases, these strange passages may also occur in the brain, spinal cord, or other body parts. Causes are still unclear, although some evidence shows traumatic injuries are the probable cause for this problem. The affected patients may have severe headaches, tinnitus, stroke-like and dementia-like symptoms. CT (computed tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans might help diagnose dural arteriovenous fistula. Endovascular embolization is the standard treatment advised for dural arteriovenous fistula. Microsurgery and stereotactic radiosurgery are the other options suggested for dural arteriovenous fistula.
