How to treat chronic dyspepsia, bloating, and constipation in my husband?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My husband is experiencing bloating and slight constipation. This is probably his 4th episode in a four-year time frame. An emergency visit and an urgent care visit followed the prior episodes. During the last episode, it was concluded that Tablet Alevue was the problem. He no longer takes tablet Alevue regularly (maybe three to four per month) but had a recent episode on Sunday night. Throughout the night, he could not get comfortable as the bloating and tightening in the stomach made it difficult to sleep. He exercises regularly and eats a fairly healthy diet. I will note that he did stop exercising over the summer for a knee injury but recently got back into the swing of his routine in mid to late September. Yesterday was able to eat (soup and bread) and had a bowel movement after eating, but he is still experiencing tightness in his stomach. Tablet GasX is not working. Again this does not happen weekly or even monthly (it is just very unpredictable) at this time. Any advice?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Your husband has dyspepsia; it is infrequent since it is episodic. It may be related to drugs or any foodstuff. Please take soft diet fruits and liquid food. Please inform us if fever, weight loss, or thyroid issues exist. Please also avoid tablet Alevue (naproxen) as it is causing the problem.
