Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My left ear is hurting a lot for the past few days and it is extremely painful. I do not have a cough or cold. But I have allergic rhinitis and I do not have any allergic attack recently. The ear is full and I can hear a ringing sound. Please help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A ringing sound or a wind-like sound in the ear that lasts for more than five minutes is called tinnitus. If it is less than five minutes, it is not significant. This particular sound you are describing is usually caused due to the dysfunction of the eustachian tube. It is the tube connecting the ear and nose. It is commonly noticeable in a quiet environment and when you are attempting to fall asleep. Crowded and noisy places serve as a distraction and you do not notice the sound. Medicines help in this condition but it takes at least a month for them to act and the sound does not vanish up to two to three months. There is an inflammation at the opening in the nose and it is mostly due to allergic rhinitis. Fluticasone nasal spray will help to reduce the inflammation and it reduces the blockage and helps to drain the fluid collected behind the eardrum. This may be the cause of your ear pain. Keep a table fan for the noise when you are trying to fall asleep. Try to distract yourself when you hear the sound. Get a hearing test done and send me the results. You can take tablet Paracetamol 650 mg two times a day for five days, tablet Ambroxol two times a day for seven days, Xylometazoline nasal spray can be used and use two drops in both the nostrils followed by steam inhalation two times a day for seven days. You can use Fluticasone nasal spray two times a day for seven days.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
