Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My niece's ear is paining a lot. A few days ago, she has inserted her finger insider her ear which might have hurt her. She also bled twice. Now the bleeding has stopped but the pain is still there. She is taking pain killers since no doctors are available due to lockdown. Kindly advise as to what might have happened and also suggest some medicine.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Is she having a cold or cough? The ear pain can be due to ear infection due to cold and cough. Did she hurt her ear canal?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

She does not have a cold or cough. Do not know if she has hurt her ear canal. Kindly provide the way forward.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If she does not have a cold or cough then the pain could be due to external ear canal infection or trauma, but I can come to the diagnosis only after examining her ear. As of now, you can give Paracetamol 500 mg three times daily for three days and antibiotic Augmentin 650 mg (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) three times daily for five days. Keep her ears dry (do not use any ear drops). I am prescribing you the medicines based on history and taking all precautions. I would like to give antibiotics only after examining ears (which is not possible here and due to lockdown you might not be able to visit an ent specialist, but there is no harm at all in taking these medicines). Do not use eardrops because if there is a traumatic perforation of the eardrum then we do not advice ear drops (so it is safe to not use drops).

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
