Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I accidentally stabbed myself with a q-tip in the ear. I felt painful for a minute, then subsided to a dull ache. It started bleeding as well. I rushed to the doctor because I was freaking out (as I did not know how to handle this), but all they did was look at my ear and confirmed a punctured and perforated eardrum and prescribed me painkillers. They advised me to come back in a few days. I already spent a lot of money on a trip to the doctor (which was unnecessary, and I am skeptical about spending even more). A day after, my ear released a bloody discharge, which felt clogged and full. I know that I should not wet my ear and blow my nose. I also increased my dosage of vitamin C to avoid an ear infection. Most of the online articles said that perforated eardrums heal on their own. I also lost 70% of my hearing in that ear. What do I do? Is this normal? Any more tips? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. You need more medications. You have to take antibiotics, and corticosteroid ear drops three times a day. I promise you that the discharge will stop, and the hearing may improve. Once the discharge stops, further investigations may be needed. I hope this helps. Thank you and take care.
