Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 20 years old female with a petite body. I am 14 weeks pregnant, and I am worried if my baby can have any anomaly or defect because I did not know that I am pregnant when I took tablet Co-Amoxiclav for my throat infection. It took about seven days to get healed. I was consuming that medicine once a day for a week. This condition happened before two months. Based on my ultrasound, I got to know I am pregnant. What should I do? Is there a possibility for my baby to have any defect when I give birth? Please help me. I am worried.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You need to be aware of your last menstrual period date either on a contraceptive or trying for a baby. It is better to share your conditions with your doctor while receiving medications. Tablet Co-Amoxiclav (Amoxicillin with Clavulanic acid) is not very harmful in early pregnancy. It is very uncommon to cause side effects to the baby when used by the pregnant mothers. So do not get worried. You can have Folic acid 0.4 mg daily if you do not have any chronic health issue (like epilepsy). It should be started in preconception to reduce congenital anomaly in babies. Have a scan around 12+ weeks and try to have nuchal translucency to be on a safer side. Similarly, your baby will be checked at 20 weeks for the total body anomalies as usual.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
