Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Can you go through the test reports and suggest why the bilirubin is high?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

  • I have been through the reports posted (attachment removed to protect patient identity), and it says there is a mild rise in the total bilirubin, predominantly indirect bilirubin. If the patient is asymptomatic, not to worry.
  • Is there a history of icterus or jaundice in the patient with the above report? To be more specific, there is no gross derangement as all the liver enzymes are within normal limits that is SGOT (serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase), SGPT (serum glutamic pyruvic-transaminase), and alkaline phosphatase. This suggests indirect hyperbilirubinemia.
  • Is there a history of anemia or reddish urine?
  • You need to repeat the tests after a week to know the change. Until then, avoid alcohol consumption and fatty food. Increasing water intake will definitely help.

Take care.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

There is no history of jaundice or anemia. He is absolutely fine. So, why are the levels high and what needs to be done?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • Haemolytic anemia is one cause which is a rare entity, particularly as the patient is asymptomatic.
  • I would advise you to go for the same test in another one week and revert with the report.

Take care.
