What could be the reason of increased liver enzyme count even after Hepatitis A and B vaccination?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I got a vaccination for hepatitis A and B a few years back. Should my doctor have tested if I was already infected? I cannot remember. On a general examination, I found my liver enzyme count is exceptionally high, and hepatitis B seems to be the most likely explanation. I am not in the risk category, though I may have slept with someone with hepatitis B without knowing it. I am waiting for the results of the hepatitis tests. Should my doctor have tested for the virus before giving me the vaccine? I did have a strange joint pain illness a long time back, which the doctors could not explain. What else could be the reason for my liver enzyme count to be 109? (rule out fatty liver, medication, and mushrooms). I did have a severe glandular fever that recurred a long time back. Could it be Epstein-Barr virus?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concerns. Hepatitis A and B cause a significant rise in hepatitis markers and acute illness with a tender liver.

My advice :

1. HBsAb (Hepatitis B surface antibody test) to confirm immunity from vaccination.

2. HCV Abs (Hepatitis C antibody test) to exclude infection.

For further advice, I would be happy to help.

Thank you.
