Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

We had protected sex using a condom eight days before her expected menstruation. She has irregular periods. I ejaculated outside the vagina. Since it is our first time, we want to make sure we are safe. So we are planning to let her take the Trust pills as an ECP with two doses at a gap of 12 hours. Is it okay to take the Trust pills and how many days does it delay the period?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

If you have used a condom while having intercourse then there is already very less chance of getting pregnant. But for extra assurance, you can take a single dose of emergency contraceptive pills. You should take the pill within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. You can also take a trust pill (Levonorgestrel-Ethinyl Estradiol), but it is not that effective. It will not delay your periods. After stopping the pill, bleeding should occur within one week.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
