Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have granulomatosis with polyangiitis and have not seen a rheumatologist for the past seven months. Before seven months, I requested to move hospitals and have an appointment booked. But my symptoms are becoming worse. I feel like having flu, swollen and itchy tonsils have come back. Also, I noticed that the roof of my mouth is very pale and also gets itchy at the back, similar to my tonsils. I was on steroids twice this year, but my symptoms were not subsided completely, and I did not get any long-term relief. Please help?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

So sorry to hear about your disease. I have understood your query and will definitely help you out. The first thing I want you to understand is that this disease is not curable. It is only manageable. It can be kept under control with medications. You will have to take medications all along. I can understand it is challenging, but once you make up your mind, you can defeat it. Secondly, until you meet the rheumatologist, I will suggest you treatment to keep your disease under control. First of all, I suggest you start your steroids, take tablet Wysolone 20 mg (Prednisolone 20 mg) once a day for five days, then 10 mg once a day for five days, then stop. Secondly, I would suggest you take an antibiotic course like capsule Amoxycillin and Clavulanate for five days as a pale and dry mucosa invites superadded infection. Thirdly take an anti-allergic drug like tablet Montelukast and Levocetirizine. This will help with the itching. Do not worry. Your symptoms will be fine once you start the treatment.

Hope this helps.
