Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was stupid and I used a hand sanitizer for masturbation. I feel no pain in my penis but I lost erection after that. I am afraid that it could not be temporary and I will be impotent for my entire life. Is there any way to get erection back by taking medicine or everything?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Hope you are having a good day. I understand your concern, but please understand that hand sanitizers contain isopropyl alcohol and when in contact with sensitive skin like the penile skin, it could cause external and internal skin and mucosa damage. The discomfort will be present until new mucosa and skin are regenerated and healthily back again by itself which could take anywhere between one to four weeks. There is no need of any panic thinking about permanent impotence, but if the erectile dysfunction persists more than a few weeks, you should get yourself examined by a local Dermatologist or a surgeon to rule out other causes of erectile dysfunction. If you have visible abrasions on the penile skins, after thorough washing the area you can apply Mupirocin ointment once or twice daily as tolerated. Please be careful the next time and abstain from such practices using hand sanitizers.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
