Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and took tablet Olmesartan 20 mg. However, I had blood pressure peaks late in the evening and early at night. So, I started taking Escitalopram 5 mg, and the peaks disappeared. However, I gained 20 kgs. Is there an alternate medication to tablet Escitalopram to control those evening-night peaks?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. You have proper blood pressure control. Regarding the tablet Escitalopram (antidepressant), one of its side effects is weight gain. It can be replaced with Effexor XR (Venlafaxine) 75 mg once daily. It does not cause weight gain.

Also, I have noticed that you have high cholesterol levels, which could cause cardiovascular complications. Do you take medications for high cholesterol? (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity)

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
