Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have two problems. The first is I have a weird sensation in my right ear like as if cold air is passing or cold water is coming out from the ear. But, there is nothing like that since the last one week. Probably, it started after cleaning my ear one week back. May I know what is it? The second problem is that two years ago, I have traveled by air for two and a half hours and since then my ears are popping while swallowing or yawning. Can you suggest to me how to clear this?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Because of the changes in air pressure in flights, the middle ear which is a closed cavity also will have some pressure changes. So, you need to protect your ears during a flight. So, you will feel a popping sensation in your ear which is worse when you have a cold or rhinitis while flying. This is because the eustachian tube which maintains the pressure of the ear gets blocked and swollen up. To avoid this, I suggest you take a decongestant orally and nasal decongestant drops especially at the time of landing. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take the medicines with their consent. You can also take steam inhalation. The weird sensation in your ear also resolves with the above treatment. Avoid using earbuds for wax cleaning. The ear wax keeps the ear canal moist and healthy. Regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
