Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a query related to excessive masturbation and nightfall since I moved away from home to a hostel for my entrance preparation. I have masturbated a lot by watching pornography and recently realized I needed to stop this addiction. When I stopped myself from doing it for two days, on my third day, when I got up in the morning, I saw that I had nightfall. So what is the meaning of stopping my habit of masturbation since, one way or the other, I am ejaculating?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. Wet dreams or nightfall, called nocturnal emission, is normal. It can be due to increased erotic stimulus mentally, physically, or visually without sex or masturbation. At this age, you are having good testosterone production; there will be 20000 sperm produced every minute, which is a lot of semen production. You need to let it out through masturbation or sex. If not, it will come out on its own when you are very much relaxed, such as during sleep. Since you know the cause, treating is easy. Reduce the frequent erotic stimulus, masturbate or have sex. Ways to reduce the periodic erotic stimulation are-

  1. Limit the intake of caffeinated beverages and foods before late afternoon. Consuming caffeine before bedtime can stimulate the brain and cause erotic dreams.
  2. Take a cold shower before bedtime. This decreases the excessive sensitivity in the genital region.
  3. Limit and control your stress levels. Stress can be a triggering factor to anything and everything. Hence, to obtain a peaceful night's sleep, checking your stress levels is necessary.
  4. Avoid sleeping on your back or stomach. These positions are known to cause sleep orgasms. Better sleep on your side.
  5. Exercise regularly and keep your body and mind relaxed. Excessive tension or anxiety and body tiredness elevate your chances of sleep orgasms.
  6. Avoid watching and reading erotic content at night. These stimulate your body and mind and result in wet dreams while asleep.
  7. For a temporary solution, take a tablet of Pari (Paroxetine) 10 mg once at night for fifteen days. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them and take medications with their consent.
  8. Thank you.
