Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I see light flashes due to blunt force (ball) impact through the left-end corner of my left eye. These light flashes are more prominent in low-light conditions, especially during late evenings. I have attached an image of my left eye for your reference. And I also have a slight burning sensation while using the laptop for a long time. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Any flashes can indicate a disturbance in the back of the eyeball, namely the vitreous gel and retina. As you may already know, the central part of the eye consists of the vitreous cavity filled up with a gel-like substance attached to the retina and optic nerve at various locations. When the gel is disturbed due to an injury, like a blunt force, the gel pulls on the retina. When the retina is irritated, it will be perceived as light flashes. Occasionally black spots roaming around will be experienced if cells are thrown into the cavity or if the vitreous breaks up into its fibrous components. Suppose the flashes have been present every day since the injury. In that case, I recommend you get a consultation from an ophthalmologist as soon as possible because this might indicate a problem in the retina, like a hole, tear, retinal detachment, or posterior vitreous detachment. For burning the eyes, I suggest a lubricating eye drop thrice a day for a couple of weeks. However, please consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent. I hope this helps. Thank you and take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
