Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My eyelid is swollen for a couple of months. At first, it was purple and itching hard. I used Ciprofloxacin ointment for two weeks applying every eight hours, reduced purpleness and swelling in the first two days then stopped helping. Tried Doxycycline for two weeks but still the same. For the last week, vision distorted or slightly blurry in that eye and today feeling pain around that area but not eyelid more like in the head, hard to describe. Any suggestions on how to treat?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have seen the pictures. (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Headache is not related to eyelid problem, it is related to your vision. You need to get yourself checked for glasses until you get them checked. Take tablet Diclopara (Diclofenac and Paracetamol) after meals only once if the pain is too much. Now let us come to lid situation, purpleness was due to overlying veins and that is natural. Swelling is due chalazion in your lids these are small collection fat-like material in your lids I will reccommend you a drop but if swelling persists beyond one month might need a minor (small) surgery. Use Moxifloxacin plus Dexamethasone eye drop three times a day for five days then taper it to two times a day for the next five days then stop.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

This swelling has been there for over a month now but I have not tried the eye drops you have suggested. I will purchase tomorrow and use it the way you suggested. Hope it will help. Just to confirm that is one eye drop Moxifloxacin and Dexamethasone combined, correct?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, but do not use them beyond 10 days. In my experience surgery will be required and it is a very minor one and requires 10 minutes, done in an out-patient basis with only local anesthesia. So do not worry.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
