Hi doctor,

I suffer from swollen eyelids. I am five weeks pregnant. My eyelids are dry. There is a burning sensation present around the skin of the eyelids. I also have itching over it. I went to a doctor. They gave me a steroid cream. But my gynecologist advised me to use it for a week. I have tried using everything including eyedrops, eyelid cleaner, lotions, and tea tree oil. But nothing has helped me. Is it due to pregnancy? Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Swollen eyelids occur due to the retention of water during pregnancy. It will get resolved after the delivery. You have itching when the overlying skin is stretched and when it becomes dry from outside. Apply moisturizer regularly. Avoid going out in the sun. Start using Olopatadine eye drops twice daily. Pinch the nasal end of the eye after instilling the drops so that the drops can stay in the eyes and it prevents the drops from going into the nose.
