Failed Spinal Anesthesia

Spinal anesthesia is a form of anesthesia used to produce the anesthetic effect in surgeries below the umbilicus and post-surgery analgesia. Sometimes the blockage may not work, and this is known as failed spinal anesthesia. The causes for the failure are failed lumbar puncture, wrong patient position, needle insertion area, sometimes instead of CSF local anesthesia might get collected in aspiration of CSF indicating pseudo lumbar puncture, leakage of solution from the syringe, anatomical abnormalities, ineffective drug action, etc. Management of the block failure depends on the extent of the anesthetic level obtained.
